Captain Ahab joins Westbred Pacing
Westbred Pacing, founded in 2021 by Western Australian harness racing breeder-owner David Simmonds and his sister Kellie, is the breeding arm of the family’s growing involvement in the industry in WA.
The group’s first venture into the stud business is the former top North American classics-winning youngster Captain Ahab (2,1:50.4), who will stand stud at Murray Veterinary Services, West Coolup, one hour’s drive south of Perth.
A $100,000 Kentucky Selected Yearling Sale purchase, Captain Ahab emerged successful at his first seven appearances including the $92,000 Nassagaweya Stakes, Champlain Stakes, Dream Maker Series and a heat of the $890,000 Metro Pace in which he took his record of 1:50.4.
A son of the siring sensation Captaintreacherous, and one of his first crop, Captain Ahab twice defeated the 2018 2YO of the Year Captain Crunch and paced seven winning miles from 1:50.4 to 1:52.3 and was race-timed in 1:49.1.
Captain Ahab’s pedigree represents a cross of very successful pacing bloodlines, being a member of the dominant Direct Scooter male line from a sister to the US 2YO Colt of the Year and sire Artspeak.
